I remember, back in the dark and distant days of my childhood, a Yellow pages advert where a young lad was lusting after a picture of a drop handled racing bike. His dad was doing his best to put him off it, all the time making calls to bike shops around the town, trying to find the one his son wanted for his birthday. At one point he tries to tell his son that it would be… “like sitting on a razor blade”.

I’m not partial to using racing bikes, my tubby-ass frame and tendancy to hammer a bike off-road makes me a prime candidate for the Mountain bike scene. This however is something that I was blown away by. It is a proper nice bike, as one of my mates would say, and it’s futuristic carbon fibre everything just rocked my world. If I could get my hands on one I would probably not even ride it, it is too beautiful and you can’t have a bike here worth more than 15€ without it disappearing.

The cables are all hidden inside the frame, the saddle is one piece from the frame, as you can see, and the saddle even has a small hole which cools your arse as you ride. Class. We mountain bikers tend to use a puddle for that, but hey ho.

Anyway, this wonderful piece of bicycle design is by a guy called, Harald Cramer. Keep on doing it, but I can’t help thinking that the young lad’s dad was right, “I told him it would be like sitting on a razor blade”

Let design into your soul and see the world as a better place.

Remember – It’s only Rugby.

Over the last month I have found myself more and more interested in something that only makes me scared. Not the thing itself, but the fact I am becoming more interested in it is what scares me. Now before anyone is starting to acuse me of weird and nasty things, I’ll come clean and say that I, as a die hard football fan, am becoming interested in Rugby. Fucking egg chasing. Me, can you believe it. Jesus, what will this world come to?

It all started last month with the onset of the World Cup in France. We were in a hotel room in Toulon on the way to Italy and I was flicking through the channels on the TV, which was interesting in itself, but there wasn’t enough to keep me interested, so sport it was. That sport was the opening game of the World Cup between France and Argentina. As an Englishman, there really isn’t any side to support there, so I just watched. Happy that France had lost, as I was there, but then I started looking for the results for England and the other home nations over the next few days and weeks.

This culminated last night in the result against, wait for it, France, in the semi-final of the tournament in Paris. I went to bed early and tried to find a channel which had news on it to see the result. Finally CNN had the result and I had a little cheer to myself. The very next thought entering my head was “what the fuck was that?” as I realised I had been hit by the Rugby bug. I was turning into the very thing I hate in football. Those plastic football fans who suddenly are interested in the game. Those who watch the games during the football world cup and shout things like, “oooo, Kick it!” etc, then suddenly the interest is over for another 4 years.

For this I can only appologise to real rugby fans, and players alike, as I understand what it is like to have those people around. I promise I will do my best to not become that, I will not buy a shirt and I will not be pretending to be a fan any longer. I can only appeal to the lord on high to help me rid myself of this ill, as I can’t spend the rest of my life wondering if I am turning out to be a closet egg chaser. I’m sure all will be well after this tournament is over, I hope it is anyway, no I pray it will be.

As for now I will have to repeat to myself, “Football is my game, Football is my game, Football is my game”, I just need the game of my heart to win me over again.

Oh my god, what have I said.
